'Young Berlin' brings together fifteen young Berlin-based artists in a single presentation at Dean, capturing the infectious energy of the city's contemporary art scene. The exhibition seeks to provide a snapshot of what city is producing right now, shown by the generation producing it.
Staged in a hotel rather than a gallery, the exhibition meets its audience where the city's visitors already are, placing new work directly into the flow of Berlin
life.

Over the last two months I went here 6 times. Two Over the last two months I went here 6 times. Two weddings and a funeral, back to Berlin for a job, back to see friends (who all seems to grow lately), very nice. This is where I grew up, lots of good people actually. During the funeral sirens went off cause a valley nearby was burning, biggest fire brigade operation in this states history. And this is whats up. More catastrophies, the sirens getting louder, but so will be the community effort. Absurd times, but moving forward. Probably a second studio here in 2027, f*ck Berlin 🥰. (This is actually super well located too, bye Berlin, hello Rhineland, Frankfurt, Brussels. All under 3h. Amsterdam is 4, Paris 5.). Art will go on anyway, so why not.
Three paintings from when I was a student between Three paintings from when I was a student between 2008 and 2015 or so, stored with family. I was fiddling around with different styles and techniques, learning (quite chaotic) how to paint, while trying to figure out what I wanna say. Took a few years, hmm, probably never ends really. Cause if you cant say it, paint it.

Unsure when I first heard about this guy. Could be in 7th grade religious studies when my teacher played "Mr.Crowley" by Ozzy Osbourne. I already listened to stuff like that, but great song nevertheless. Continued to read a lot about Occultism/occult literature as a teen. As a student, I guess I treated this guy more like an cultural icon, if that makes sense. I mean he is really. Still an interesting topic cause why not.
This is "Aleister Crowley", oil on board, roughly 50x40cm , maybe 2010

His hat is green.

This one is "untitled" (golden III). After Charcot and his presentation of women at Salpetriere in 1863, which he declared as hysteric, an illness that never existed. I guess I was interested about the idea of "a healthy mind", what is concidered normal, and changes humanity were going through at that time. Society was rather crazy if you think about it, although it still is to this day, just different. Would not chose a source image like this anymore, but whats done is done. In hinsight it already contains themes I am interested in to this day, although it was more on the nose.

Painting detail. Oil on Canvas.

This is rather random. Used to paint my family, friends and lovers a lot, this is one of those portraits. The original idea didnt work, so I painted over. Does not have to be destroyed. "Untitled", oil on canvas, 40x35cm, 2010

For a while I am working on a new printed edition For a while I am working on a new printed edition at the beautiful bbk printing studio @kuenstlerhaus.bethanien . Initally drawn to the famous minimalistic silkscreen set by Agnes Martin, I was experimenting with etched systems myself. Because I am me, the inital results were more Lynch then Martin, but thats okay. The inital starting point was the systems I usually use, which as an etching look like a prison cell. Fine with me, life is a prison, and language/words definetly can be too. How I feel at least. Still experimenting with it, etching has its own funny way of coming into being. Besides the thought work, its a lot of manual labour and time consuming as well. So stay tuned, more Updates soon.

-
Wheatfield — A Confrontation is a 1982 artwork by conceptual artist Agnes Denes. The work, a 2.2-acre field of wheat, was grown on the empty Battery Park landfill in Manhattan, next to the World Trade Center, for four months from 1 May to 16 August 1982. Described by Denes as "an intrusion of the countryinto the metropolis, the world's richest real estate", it is regarded as her best-known work.

At the time, the area upon which the artwork was to be created, acres upon a landfill in Battery Park, Manhattan, was considered to have an economic potential of $4.5 billion. The landfill had been created when the nearby World Trade Center was built. As a result of this rubble, the land was largely infertile to begin with. Initially, Denes was invited to create a public sculpture in New York; she has said that she "decided we had enough public sculptures, enough men sitting on horses," and thus rejected this proposal.

Summer photodump. Why does it feel like autumn tho Summer photodump. Why does it feel like autumn though? Time for self reflection, contemplation, rain, being inside. Maybe its the body crushing heat followed by rain, getting hit by climate crisis, who knows. Learning how to be less, always too much. Maybe I am preparing for exile.
Also learned yesterday that before the titanic hit the ice, there was another ship giving out warning after warning. "Ice straight ahead, dont do it" and so on. They warned them so urgently that the men on the Titanic finally turned off their Radio. As long as men rule this world, we not gonna make it. Just a thought.
Happy Sunday everyone. Stay safe.

My studio at the moment… what else is there to s My studio at the moment... what else is there to say, words words words. "Place your wound on mine" is a song title I think about a lot for a while; working on this body of paintings and for an upcoming exhibition (save the date Berlin, 29/30.08). For some time now I prepared more and more paintings in 30x35cm, coloured underpainting and first layers, let them rest, breath, did overpaintings, sanded some down... waited, thinking, then decisions and a lot of drawing.
Now more rest. And I cant do videos to save my life. While painting, I dont know man. This Plattform is such a pain in the ass. Besides, painting as always goes well.

Besides the usual, not a lot is happening lately, Besides the usual, not a lot is happening lately, and I forgot to post anything, sorry techno overlord. For a while now I am also turning a bit into a recluse, but that is alright. I am an Artist afterall. And my brain was on fire for so many years, I really enjoy this new clarity and merging into myself. Still "sober" too, love it. Soon Ill get a cat and then that will be that.

Anyway, here is a selection of some things I saw lately.

Sidenote, If you know me, at night I wake up every 2-3 hours and sometimes get up and do strange things. But for a few days now, I pop a high dose of magnesium and sleep right through, like a Rock.
A miracle. - #summer #healing

Last Saturday I went to Church to see @akchamel_ Last Saturday I went to Church to see @akchamel_

It was among the best things I have seen in a long time, and that includes all art. Finally something brave and mystical, not relying on a written translation, something honest and direct. It felt real, pure and wonderfully weird. Creative and human, interesting, potentially uplifting, changing, transcendental. Finally normal people as well!
Its amazing on record but much more straight forward and digestible, live its more raw and full/doom.

(only took two pics, please check them out and support)

I also went to an Asperger self help group, different theme but also finally normal people. Watch out I am morphing more and more into my true self 😈!

Finally, I visited the Düsseldorf Art Fair. Sadly I cant be in town that often anymore (though still like the idea of living there for a bit, Studioswap anyone?), but wanted to support my friends.

Went to the countryside where I grew up, still fee Went to the countryside where I grew up, still feels like my second home, rural and beautiful. Need to figure out a way to spend more time there. Have plenty of friends around, access to different workshops, its not too far from Rhineland, the Ruhr Area, Brussels. With good access to Paris and London, unlike Berlin which is at the end of the World, and not very interesting anymore anyway.
Whatever, enjoy, and slide for cat pics!

Palermo and "the most beautiful hands of the renai Palermo and "the most beautiful hands of the renaissance", Antonello da Messina.
-
Sometimes I wonder why I am drawn to cities like Palermo and its content, spanning centuries. Its obvious development through different cultures maybe. Besides probably because I am interested in art that contains real devotion, madness, time and skill. That is human in its flaws, its origin in a specific time, but that still works. Art that is more, wants more, not just illustrating a personal story or a political concept. Art that is humming, not speaking with ordinary words. Individual and collective, maybe even transcendental. More, I need more, not "this".
-
Good food too oc.
-
Besides, for unknown reasons I was drawn to da Messinas work very early on. He didnt make much, very sensual work though. The bended thieves at the crucifixion, the so called "Antwerp Crucifixion", and his little portraits, crying...
Maybe thats it, the sadness. "Too sad to tell you" kinda vibes. Ecce Homo, hmm hmm.
